The United States-West Africa Group (US-West Africa Group) is an African Diaspora cooperative that serves as a bridge for knowledge and investment capital flows between the United States and West African economies.
Our Mission is to foster alliances and partnerships between entities in the United States (Canada) and West Africa, as an African response to globalization, and toward security of the African region. The US-West Africa Group promotes, supports, and strengthens business, trade, investment, knowledge, economic and socio-cultural transactions, between the United States and West Africa.
We employ our assets, such as investment and knowledge capital base, and entrepreneurship to open new frontiers for the Africa region. We do this through capacity building of Members, clients, and partners to reposition for growth in a New World Order, which is underlined by concerns for financial, human, socio-political and environmental securities, etc.
We are a nouveau group of development financiers and effective poverty reduction strategists. The US-West Africa Group is a vehicle and source of innovative financing through Diaspora-private-public partnerships (D-PPP) that involve entities on both sides of the Atlantic. We work with partners for members to invest in high-impact projects and various forms of business enterprises and professional services, e.g., by holding special bonds, etc. As our combined remittances now constitute significant GDP equivalent of the Africa region, our projects seek to add value to such efforts aimed at household income stabilization and community infrastructure development.
We help West African governments, regional and global development finance institutions prepare and implement high-impact frameworks and instruments in adapting the region’s social, economic, and development processes to modern situations. We help build trade and knowledge alliances for sustained impact of interventions. Our knowledge of the American and global state-of-the-art and local conditions in West Africa help us strengthen:
  • African ownership of donor-financed projects
  • Program development, management, and monitoring capacity in West Africa
  • Project effectiveness through our knowledge and experiences
  • Overall capacity for countries to implement programs – as a significant proportion of West Africa’s best brains is in the Diaspora.
  • We also provide knowledge, business insight and market development support to American firms that operate or wish to explore business opportunities in West Africa.

Africa Must Restore the Will of the Ivorian Electorate

Press Release: Washington, DC. December 7, 2010

Fifty years of independence and massive investments in institution and state building have been overshadowed by extreme failures in organizing credible elections, declaring winners and forming representative governments according to the will of the people. ... We agree with those who have cautioned that the power-sharing arrangements brokered in the cases of Zimbabwe and Kenya must not become a trend. Elections produce winners according to the wishes of the majority, and a strong opposition is part of a healthy democracy.
